Kulsuhm Yussuf

Worldbuilder and Author.

I  write fantasy the way I wish someone had written it for me when I was younger. Worlds with weight and rules and weather, characters who carry their histories on their faces, magic that costs something. The kind of stories you keep returning to because you want to step back inside and live there for a while.

About me

I  am a UK-based creative writer currently studying and about to graduate with a bachelor's in Creative Writing. My Final Major Project combines traditional prose with world-building and fantasy aspects. It is a collaborative piece with an artist/animator exploring how the same world can breathe differently across two media.

I'm a writer who loves the creative side of things, horror, fantasy, empowerment, and what if? Genres are my go-to! I'm always searching for a way to delve deeper into a new world, exploring my imagination, and I'm glad to bring you along for it, too.

What I’m currently writing

The world of Solar Eclipse...

A continent split into elven sectors, each ruled by royalty. Solar. Lunar. Floris. Tundra and Saffron. There is no peace between them, only paperwork.

The chapter opens with Bonnie alone on a rooftop, caught in a vision she never asked for. In prose, I can stay inside her mind, describe the scent of rose water, the pull of the trance, the way time slips. That interiority carries the scene.

Even though I began from Bonnie’s perspective, I had to simplify and externalise those moments so they could work on the page. The story unfolds through what is seen and said, with pacing shaped by silence and panel breaks rather than sentences.

Working across both forms has changed how I write. The novel helped me think more carefully about emotional pacing and structure, especially in scenes like Bonnie and Arkaine’s argument. While also trying to figure out how to communicate that to the illustrator.

This process has been demanding, but it has made me more precise and intentional as a writer. I want Solar Eclipse to feel consistent, no matter how it’s read.

Solar Eclipse Event

Join me for an evening that brings Solar Eclipse off the page and into the room. The first half is a live reading of the opening chapter, performed with an original ambient soundscape composed for the Lunar sector. The second half opens the gallery floor, where you can walk through printed panels from the manga draft, original character design sheets, and concept art spanning the three elven courts.

There will be a short Q&A on worldbuilding and the process of adapting a novel into manga, followed by drinks and an opportunity to talk one-to-one.

Limited to 60 guests to keep things intimate.
